Steve Reoutt was born in Shanghai, China and came to San Francisco at age 12, where he lived most of his life. He traveled as a guide to the Soviet Union for the USIA graphic arts exhibit. He began teaching at the California College of the Arts in 1967 and taught there for 41 years as professor of graphic design. He was a founding member of the SFAIGA and made a fellow in 2001. In addition to teaching, he was a free-lance designer, illustrator, and painter. His oil paintings, watercolors, and monoprints have been exhibited widely.
